pale-leaf woodland sunflower : Helianthus strumosus 'Aurora Rubin'

Helianthus strumosus, the pale-leaf woodland sunflower plants that are offered for sale in the UK and are visible as photographs online, mostly from UK or European sites, look very similar to Helianthus tuberosus, Jerusalem artichokes. Photographs of wild plants from their native Canada and the USA are not that detailed I don't remember seeing any tuber pictures. However the tubers are reported by growers to be used in the same way as Jerusalem artichokes and taste the same.

The tubers are more elongated with much bigger gaps between "eyes" and don't seem to ever become knobbly.

'Aurora Rubin' is sometimes found under the name Jerusalem artichoke as well but in my experience they are the same whatever species is attached. Hardiness seems to be the same. The "red" tubers are a range of shades, from violet to brown, as the picture below shows. It grows about the same height as it's cousin. Initial growth, in containers at least, seems to grow out at an angle before resuming vertical growth.
