Desiderata (or Wish List)
There are many many named cultivated versions, of Jerusalem artichokes around the world.
Retail nursery sources of tubers usually only sell within their own country. Naming of different forms may therefore be unique to that country and duplicates of others. The natural home of the wild species (Canada and the USA), western and eastern countries in Europe, the Republic of South Africa, even China, grow differently named crops. The sale of these commercially grown edible foods can cross borders more readily and this way different forms can spread further afield, but usually without a unique name. It is also quite normal to grow 2 or 3 varieties together for commercial culinary production and so impossible to name them for retail resale. So obtaining a very wide range of the different types of tuber to grow yourself can be very difficult.
There are far more named cultivars being grown around the world than I can fit in my growing area, but there are some I would really like to be able to grow to see how different they are from what is available in the UK even if you persist in your search. If you are able to supply me with any of the following I would be very grateful and will exchange with any of those I do have, if you prefer.
Helianthus strumosus or tuberosus 'Dave's Shrine'
Helianthus tuberosus 'Pink Crisp'
Helianthus tuberosus 'Violet de Rennes'
However if you know of any other un-listed named plants or have tubers yourself I may well still be very interested so please do get in touch.
